Since its begining in 1999, Whalesound has given logistic support (encampment, boat among others) to various scientists who specialize in different subjects such us ornithology, archaeology, botanics, biology and genetics, belonging to different institutions such as Fundacion Yubarta (Colombia), Instituto de la Patagonia, Universidad de Magallanes, University of Western Ontario, London – Ontario, Centro de Estudios del Cuaternario (CECUA), Universidad Santo Tomás, Universidad de Chile, and Universidad de Concepción.
Scientific research has covered different subject, but has mainly centered in humpback whales. Particularly about genetic identity and conduct; and to establish the migratory route with the support of Fundacion Natibo. Other research has been directed towards environmental changes, shipwreck archaeology and seabird identification, among others.
In the future, our research will enfasize in studying cetacean behaviour and sociology. |
